Reflection on the reality of human life

The poem entitled ‘As You Like It’ by William Shakespeare is the reference of the discussion in class. By looking at the meaning of the poem, I found that this poem actually talking about the circulation of human life. It tells us in right chronological order since he was born and it goes stage by stage; becomes the school boy, the teenager who involved in love, and then he becomes the soldier(young adult stage), the justice(lawyer or judge in his matured adult age). Then, he moves to the next stage which is not been stated in this poem. Finally, he is at the end of his life and the old man got Alzheimer or maybe senility. This poem is a very great poem. It warned us that everybody will get through the same stages.

Reflection on acting lives on stage

In this class, we have been revealed to the acting activity. We are given a very short dialogue and then we have to number the character on our own. By looking at the dialogue, I assumed that the minimum characters are two and the maximum are three. There are some partners which have been randomly called to act in front of the class. To be frank, I do not like that because my heart will beat fast and I feel like there is a butterfly in the stomach. Luckily, my partner and I were not the chosen one. So, basically we learn about stage direction through this activity. An open text can be hard as there are fewer stage directions to guide the actors. Without stage direction, we can’t even imagine how to stand or even where to place the hand. I am also amazed how my friends came out with their own stage direction and perform the play creatively. Some performances are boring; some of them are quite fun and interesting.

Reflection on first lesson

There is no right or wrong in literature. This is the time to start on the new field of literary device. I learn about something new in this course. Here, I was exposed to the introductory of drama such as its history and year that was published. All my friends and I was taught to deal with drama; the type of drama which have been performed since the time of Sophocles, a very long time ago. At first, we are taught how to pronounce Sophocles correctly. This is because many of us didn’t know how to pronounce it. We gain a lot of new inputs on drama such as the tragic and the comedy play. I enjoyed this class so much because I got so many inputs and new terms that used in drama.

Reflection on Questionnaire

On the first day of Teaching Language of Drama’s class, I have been given a task that should be answered about ‘point of view’ used in short stories. I’m so shocked at first because I didn’t expect that Dr Edwin will give that task on his first class. Oh my god! First class in semester 4, and I have to answer all the questions? It is such ridiculous! Of course I didn’t answer them well because I entered the class with empty-headed. I thought that Dr Edwin will give a brief explanation about the course outline, but I’m totally wrong. Our lecturer said he wants to test our knowledge about that subject which was taken on last semester. I think he did it well because after that moment, I will make sure that I’m always get ready in answering his ambush questions.
