A Streetcar Named Desire

‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ is a stage play with elements of tragedy. It was published and performed in 1947. ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ centers on a desolated woman named Blanche DuBois. She lived elegantly in the family homestead, married a man she adored, and pursued a career as an English teacher. But her life fell apart when she discovered that her husband, Allen Grey, was having a homosexual affair. Disgraced, he killed himself. Blanche sought comfort in the arms of other men, many men. After she had relations with one of her students, a 17-year-old, authorities learned of the encounter and fired her. Meanwhile, relatives died and she could not keep up the family home. The play begins when Blanche arrives in New Orleans to stay with her sister, Stella, and her crude, outspoken husband, Stanley Kowalski. Though scarred by her past, Blanche still tries to lead the life of an elegant lady and does her best, even lying when necessary, to keep up appearances. At her sister’s house, there are many conflict appeared and put the pressure more on Blanche. Overall, this play is not boring and the audience keep wondering what will happen next.

How to evaluate peers

It is not easy to evaluate others. Moreover, if our intelligence level is lower than them. There are some criteria that we need to consider in evaluating person. Firstly, we have to look at their performance. I mean the way that they are presenting their work and convey the ideas. Frankly speaking, I saw my friends are good enough in presenting their teaching before. Each of them is success in delivering their brilliant ideas and opinion. Besides, they are look confident although sometimes they use the hesitant language. This is maybe due to the reasons that we have been trained to speak and give comments in front of the audience. It is so great when we can evaluate people because we can learn through them. I feel excited when we are given the evaluation form to give the comments on our friend’s presentation. This is because we are free to give any comment that comes into our mind whether it is irritating or not. Usually, we tend to comment it honestly and our peer has to accept that with so much pleasure.

How to be evaluated

How to be evaluated by others? I think everybody has their own different perspective when they want to evaluate me. Usually, my friends will evaluate me when I have to do micro teaching, but so far I was not chosen yet. There are many ways on how people evaluating someone. For example, through the personality, performance, character traits and so on.
Actually, I will do the micro teaching with my partner, Nor Aini Ab. Rashid. She always told me that she nervous when our tutor, Miss Baiti is calling the name randomly, just like Dr Edwin. Oh my God, like father like daughter. Hehe..Fortunately, we are lucky so far, our name hasn’t called yet. So, we will have enough time to do the preparation for the micro teaching. However, I’m still afraid to do that. Sometimes, my nervousness make me blur and don’t know what to say. Automatically, there were numerous error in my pronunciation and grammar. When this things happened, I think it will give a big effect to me because my friend will think twice whether to say I’m good or not. Honestly, it is not easy for me as I’m rarely using English in my conversation everyday. But I hope, one day I will be able to speak English fluently without any hesitation.
I think that’s all I want to say. Now, I’m just waiting for my turn to do the micro teaching. I hope I will do it fine or much better..

Teiresias

Teiresias is a one of the important character in the play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. Teiresias is a blind man who can actually see the fated outcome of Oedipus’ life. This minor character of Tiresias is responsible for foreshadowing Oedipus’ fate, developing the theme of blindness, and also illustrating dramatic irony. Teiresias is able to see the fate and destruction that might be happened to Oedipus. Teiresias uses his own blindness to reveals to Oedipus of his own mental blindness towards the truth of his life. At this point, Oedipus learnt that his sight brings evil, pain and wretchedness in his life.Teiresias also make the reader aware that to see physically does not mean that you can see mentally, as Oedipus clearly displays towards his past and fate. It is ironic that a man like Teiresias who is blind physically can see the suffering and madness that will come to Oedipus in future. Since Teiresias had revealed to Oedipus the past, Oedipus now found the truth of his life and now that he can see mentally.
